Taylor Dunn, MD
Dr. Dunn is from Choteau, Montana. He received his undergraduate degree in Biology from Lewis and Clark College and then served in the Peace Corps in Africa. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Washington and completed residency in Family Medicine at Ventura Country, CA. He is board certified in Family Medicine.
Taylor worked in Kotzebue and Antarctica before coming to Juneau in 2005. He enjoys all aspects of full-spectrum family medicine from delivering babies to end-of-life care but has a special interest in procedures including cardiac stress testing, joint injections and family planning. Dr. Dunn does an effective, yet tender, vasectomy. When he isn’t working he enjoys travel, Mexican food and skunking his partner, Sheila, in cribbage.
Dorothy Hernandez, MD
Dorothy Hernandez is originally from New York. She loves traveling and has lived in several states before settling in Juneau in 2003. Her BA is from Oberlin College, Ohio and her medical degree is from University of Texas. She completed her residency in Ventura California. She was only planning on being in Juneau temporarily but she and her husband Don Schneider have become an active part of the community including hiking and hockey. She enjoys all aspects of family practice and has a focus on women’s health. She speaks Spanish.

Kacy grew up on a ranch in Montana. After earning her medical degree, she moved to Boise, ID where she completed her residency at Family Medicine Residency of Idaho. She rounded out her medical education by obtaining training in a high risk and operative obstetrics fellowship at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, WA.
She has been at Valley Medical Care since 2019. She enjoys cultivating relationships with her patients throughout their lifespan. She is compassionate about promoting physical and mental wellness for pregnant individuals in the prenatal period and the fourth trimester. Other interests include adult and adolescent gender affirmation care, hepatitis C/HIV management, opiate use disorder medication management, fertility evaluations and management of menopause. She also offers a variety of office based procedures including colposcopy, long acting reversible contraception device insertion, circumcision, large joint injections, trigger point injections and dermatology procedures.
Outside of medicine, Kacy enjoys adventuring in Juneau & Southeast AK with her husband, Luke and their dog, Nikka. Some of her favorite activities include a sunny day cross country ski on Mendhenhall Lake, Blueberry picking at Eaglecrest and hitting trails nearby home with her dog.
Danny Kim, MD
Dr. Kim was born in Chicago, Illinois. He received his bachelor’s degree in Religion and Pre-Medicine from Pacific Union College and his medical degree from Northwestern University. He completed his residency training at Tacoma General Hospital and is board certified in Family Medicine. Prior to moving to Juneau, he served in the U.S. Air Force and trained resident physicians at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. His special interests include obstetrics, pediatrics, endoscopy, and minor surgery. He is married and has two children.
Luke Mather, MD

Luke grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska spending much of his leisure time in the outdoors. He attended undergraduate at the University of Washington and continued his medical training through the University of Washington in the Alaska-WWAMI program. He completed his residency in Family Medicine at the Family Medicine Residency of Idaho in Boise, ID.
He started at Valley Medical Care in 2019. He enjoys providing care to a broad spectrum of patients including pediatrics, OB and adult patients. He enjoys collaboration with patients to promote physical and mental wellness.
Luke has interest in treatment of gastrointestinal disease. He is a member of the American Association for Primary Care Endoscopy and performs both EGD and Colonoscopies. He also offers a number of different office based procedures including Vasectomy, skin excision for treatment of skin cancer, laceration repair, joint injections, and placement of long acting contraception, including IUDs, in addition to treating a wide range of medical issues.
In his spare time, he enjoys exploring Southeast with his wife Kacy and their dog. He particularly enjoys skiing fresh corn snow on a sunny spring day, cross-country skiing on Mendenhall Lake and exploring the waters surrounding Juneau.
Don Schneider, MD
Dr. Schneider received his undergraduate degree in Biology from Pacific Union College and his medical degree from Loma Linda University. He completed his residency in Family Medicine at Ventura, CA and is board certified in Family Medicine. He is married.
Richard Welling, MD
Dr. Welling was born in Anchorage, AK. He received his undergraduate degree in French and Chemistry from Brigham Young University and his medical degree from the University of Washington. He completed a residency in Family Practice with OB at the University of Utah. He is board certified in Family Medicine and enjoys the practice of obstetrics and pediatrics. He is married and has four children. He enjoys woodworking and volunteers as a coach for the local track team.
Jenna Schmidt, MD
Dr. Schmidt is originally from Nome, Alaska, where she grew up in a bustling house filled with her 5 other siblings. She received her medical degree at University of Washington, then spent residency in Family Medicine with Sea Mar Marysville Family Medicine Residency. She continued with Sea Mar with a fellowship in obstetrics, focused on surgical obstetrics and high risk pregnancies. Professional interests include women’s health, procedures, and most importantly fostering long term therapeutic relationships with patients through continuity of care. In her spare time she enjoys subsistence, baking, time with her partner, and caring for their two house rabbits. She is looking forward to getting to know the wonderful communities of Juneau and Valley Medical Care.

Matthew Jones, APRN, FNP-C
Matt was born in Haines, AK. He received his undergraduate degree in psychology/nursing from Whitworth College and his advanced practice nursing training at Oregon Health Sciences University. He is certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner. He previously worked at OHSU. He has two adopted children.
Rebecca Young, APRN, FNP-C
Rebecca Young graduated from Harrisburg Area Community College with an Associate Degree in Nursing in 1991, specializing in critical care. She moved to Southeast Alaska in 1996 to pursue a career in flight nursing. In 2001 she attended the University of Anchorage Alaska and obtained her Master’s Degree in Nursing, specializing in Family Practice. Rebecca has 27 years of health care experience and has worked at Valley Medical Care as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) since 2005.
Kayla Mount, APRN, FNP-C
Kayla graduated with an Associate Degree in Nursing from Amarillo College in 2009. She worked in critical care and case management for 12 years before graduating with a Master of Science in Nursing with a focus in Family Practice from Georgetown University in 2021. Outside of the clinic, she can be found walking dogs, working on house projects, or engaged in some other outdoor activity.
Christina Schulte-Pereyra, APRN, FNP-BC
Christina graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Seattle Pacific University in 2013. She worked for eight years as a public health nurse, providing evidenced-based services addressing public health needs in rural communities throughout Southeast Alaska. Christina graduated from the University of Alaska Anchorage in 2022 with a Master of Science in Nursing, specializing in Family Practice. Christina’s experiences in public health nursing provide the foundation for her practice – with a focus on providing evidence-based preventative healthcare for the individual and community. Christina is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC).
Valley Medical Care participates in teaching programs with several universities, including the University of Washington. Having contact with patients is essential training for resident doctors and medical students; both patients and the public benefit from the integrated care that is provided by health care teams that include these professionals.
